The folk-custom of the South Mountain was formed in the specific natural conditions and social environment, and refers to every aspect of people¡¯s lives. It not only reflects the social history, natural environment and people¡¯s thoughts, ideas and values of the South Mountain, also represents of development road created by the people of the South Mountain. Meanwhile, it reflects the relationship between the long collected fashions, customs and the landscape scenic spots and the fashions of Buddhism and Taoism.

Robbing the head of the joss-stick: People in the South Mountain have the custom of burning joss-sticks and worship to Gods and Buddha on the first day of a new year measured by the Chinese lunar calendar. There is a legend that the one who robs the head of the joss-stick of the new year will be blessed by Gods and he will has a smooth life. So ¡°robbing the head of the joss-stick¡± is also called lucky joss-stick, which is a traditional custom in spring festival of the South Mountain. Every year, tens of thousands of travelers from home and abroad come to burn joss-sticks and warship, praying the prosperous business and happy family.

Temple fair of the South Mountain: temple fair is a unique custom in the South Mountain.
Temple fair started from the Tang Dynasty, it is said that the May 17 measured by the Chinese lunar calendar of every year is the birthday of Tianfu Emperor. All kinds of activities of sacrificing gods and recreation are carried out before or after this day for celebration, and it is called the ¡°temple fair¡±. In the past, this kind of temple fair is purely sacrificing activities. At present, it has converted into a large pageant integrating martial arts, acrobatics and songs and dancing with handwriting, colored lantern and precious cultural relics, missing its original meaning.

Joss-stick period of the South Mountain: the joss-stick period is one of the unique customs of the South Mountain, which means that from July to September, folks use specific form to burning joss-sticks in the South Mountain. It is a kind of sacrificing activity in folks. Especially it is stipulated in the South Mountain that August 1 measured by Chinese lunar calendar is the birthday of the Emperor of the South Mountain. Therefore August 1 is the climax of the joss-stick period, hundreds of thousands of come to South Mountain to burn joss-stick and worship the emperor on this day.
